A real fighter

A real fighter.
This Golden eagle has come for a visit recent years, it usually shows up at the end of December and stay until February. If another Golden eagle is in the area it will attack immediately. Last season it looked to have lost some of its strength and received several harsh attacks by the female area eagle.
Here with a natural crutch from a moose. I hope to see this eagle soon.

Golden eagles strong claws

The Golden eagles most deadly weapon is not the beak but it´s claws, which it forces down into it’s prey with the help of tendons in it’s claws. The Golden eagle possesses an almost unbelievable strength compared to its size. I know that skilled Golden eagles gets a hold over the head to avoid getting bitten and as we can see that´s what´s happening in this picture. The eagle takes no risks with a traffic killed badger.

Cave

This is the landmark wich points out the way to a cave I use to visit sometimes

The cave is situated out in the woods and probably from the time when the seabord was at this level. In the cave there is an old fireplace and a legend tell us about a bearhunter who used to stay here some hundred years ago.

Guardian of wall and mire.

A shy bird that`s constantly on guard and with help from spies and several guard posts keeps lookout in the area. It keeps it self safe while also warning other wild animals when danger draws close. That is our raven in north of Sweden. This bird is both cunning and inventive in it`s hunt for food while also being an important garbage collector.

Just over a week later i`m photographing raven again; this time in London`s old mythical fortress The Tower. Here though, the raven have a diffrent purpose; according to the legend the British kingdom will fall when the seven ravens either die or leave the Tower. (Good thing the legend was most likely proven wrong when most or all ravens died of shock during the Nazi bombing of London in World War II. According to some sayings one raven survived. In present day the raven are taken care of by a special " ravenmaster", who sees to it that they get there daily meal consisting of 170 grams of meat and special bird biscuits drenched in blood. They even get to feast on eggs once a week.

Ravens are always skilled imitators and here in the tower they seem to have picked up sounds of mantle motions from rifles. To keep the ravens in check - despite the good food some ravens have left the tower - they clip their left wings. Though thera have been occasion when raven got fired.

One of these had the bad habbit of breaking TV - antennas and the other one - fittingly named Grog - was last seen outside East End pub.

Six nights and mornings in my Capercaille hide

In one of my tent we were visited by an impertinent capercaillie. When one of my guests was in the hide, tried the grouse to fly up and sit down on the tent. I was awakened by the capercaillie ran into the tent. The name of this capercaillie is Great Albin.

New tree hide

New plans for the summer!
My intentions are to have my third tree hide ready this autumn. I have found a suitable place for it up in some pine trees. From this hide it will be possible to take pictures with wide-angle lenses and telephoto lenses.
This picture was taken from my second tree hide. I used a 16-35 wide-angle leans and a flash assembled about 30 cm under the camera. I put out some meat on the roof of the hide. Than I just had to wait and pull the trigger of the camera when the eagle jumped out.
I have retouched from the picture some smaller snow flakes falling from the roof when the eagle jumped.

Mating Golden eagles

Last week I was lucky enough to get photos of mating Golden eagles
in the north of Sweden.

Earlier I have been photographing Golden eagle attacking Red fox.
At the end of last week I got hold on some dead Red foxes.
I put one of them in front of the photo hide.
Ravens and other birds was suspicious against the fox,
they were not sure if it was dead or alive.
When the old eagle comes flying in, it takes little notice of whether
the fox is dead or alive.
I know that skilled Golden eagles
get´s a hold over the head to avoid getting bitten,
and as we can see that´s what´s happening in this picture.

Gäster/Guests

En bild från veckan som gick: Några fotografer som fick fotografera kungsörn
alla dagar de satt i gömslet. Det resulterade i så här glada miner under middagen.

A picture from the past week: Three photographers who got shots of the Golden eagle
every day they sat in the hide. It resulted in some happy faces during the dinner.

Herre på täppan/King of the hill

Kampen fortsätter mellan den gamla kungsörnen
och den yngre.
En härlig fotoupplevelse från gårdagen./
The struggle between to Golden eagles continues.
A great experience from yesterday.

Duvhök/Goshawk

Äntligen kom den gamla duvhöken på besök,
den här säsongen senare än vanligt./

The old goshawk finally paid me a visit,
this year later than usual.
Jag gillar duvhöken som modell för porträttbilder.

Blicken!

De gula ögonen!

Dess förmåga att se kaxig ut ger tryck i bilden./
I like using the goshawk as a model for portraits.
The gaze!
The yellow eyes!
And it's ability to look very cocky gives extra weight to the picture.

-33 Celsius

Idag - 33 Celsius utanför gömslet. Kungsörnen kommer på besök på förmiddagen med frostig blick!/To day - 33 degrees Celsius outside the hide. The Golden eagle comes for a visit in the morning with a frosty look!

Kungsörn/Golden eagle

Revirörnarna som jag nu följt under många
år är mycket trogna sitt revir.
Tillsammans är de ett team som hjälps åt med
bevakning av reviret. / The territory eagles
are very stationary.
They work as a team guarding the area.

Unfamiliar eagles has to watch out, and make itself respected.
Here is a new eagle who has placed itself close to the territory male, wich gaze ominous
at the intruder.
